Visoko Schools Mark International Day for the Eradication of Child Poverty

In a spirit of solidarity and compassion, the Women’s Association Mozaik Visoko, in collaboration with several primary schools across Visoko, joined hands to commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Child Poverty on October 17. The event was organized with the support of the City Administration of Visoko, the Global Network of Religions for Children (GNRC), End Child Poverty, and Arigatou International, under the theme “Stand with Children in War, Eradicate Poverty.”
As part of the commemoration, an online workshop brought together 8th and 9th grade students from six local schools to explore the theme “How Poverty Affects Children’s Mental Health.” The session, prepared and facilitated by psychologist Majida Memišević, provided young participants with a safe space to reflect on how poverty affects their well-being, aspirations, and sense of dignity.
Addressing the participants, Zvonimira Jakić, GNRC Youth Coordinator for Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasized the importance of empathy, care, and standing by others in times of need. “Each act of kindness strengthens the bonds of humanity and brings us closer to a world where no child suffers alone,” she said.
Ismeta Salihspahić, GNRC Coordinator for Bosnia and Herzegovina, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continuous action in reducing poverty. She highlighted the power of individual and collective responsibility, reminding participants that “eradicating poverty begins with our willingness to care and to act.”
In addition to the workshop, Mozaik Visoko organized an art and literary competition, inviting children to express their hopes for a world free from poverty. The submissions reflected remarkable creativity and empathy, and the winning entries will be announced in November during the annual Day of Prayer and Action for Children.
This initiative reflects GNRC’s ongoing commitment to Answering the Call of the Child, inspired by the Abu Dhabi Declaration and the GNRC Strategy 2030. By empowering young people to speak, reflect, and take action, these efforts continue to build a safe, secure, and sustainable world for every child—one where hope, dignity, and compassion guide our shared future.
